Celebrating 50 Years of Friendship Excellence Generosity

Senior Class President of the Class of 1975

Greetings

Greetings. When we stop and think of it, we are blessed and well favored. One in six US citizens
reach 65 years of age. Here we are today, from a class of approximately 140 students in 1971, to a
graduating class of 110 in 1975, by the grace of God, we are prepared to celebrate our 50th
Anniversary Easter, April 18-20, 2025.
As we, the blessed graduates of Oakwood University, anticipate our 50th Golden anniversary,
remember we represent approximate six percent (6%) of Americans who experience this academic
Golden Anniversary milestone. Suffice it to say, reflecting on our journey since 1975, we are
reminded of the favor of God, invaluable lessons learned, friendships forged, and the spirit of
unity and providence that binds us together, even after 50 years. This favored status also reminds
us that just as we are favored to reach this point, so we are motivated, even
obligated, to reach back and help those behind us. In the spirit of giving back, we have set our
sights on the noble goal: to raise a $75,000 scholarship fund in honor of our milestone
reunion–$75,000 from the Class of 1975.
When we reach this goal, this will be the largest class reunion gift in Oakwood’s 129-year history.
This scholarship will support the Standing in the Gap Oakwood University initiative, and it will
be a beacon of hope for future deserving students, empowering them to pursue their dreams and
aspirations. Our united gift will make a big difference and will set a good example for future
classes.
As the former Senior Class President, I plan to stretch myself and join my alma mater in giving,
giving and giving some more. So, join us as former Class Officers and Planning Committee in
giving to make a difference. Also plan to join our regular quarterly online Zoom Class Meetings.
By joining, sharing, and giving, be a blessing and receive a blessing.
It’s good to be working with you
again!

Very Sincerely,

Delbert W. Baker
