Kathy Stewart Tunis

Kathy Stewart Tunis was born in St. Louis, Missouri and  raised in Kinloch, Missouri.  After graduating in 1975 from Oakwood College with a BS Degree in Business Education, she was recruited to go to the Lake Region Conference to be the Business Education Teacher at Shiloh Academy in Chicago, Illinois.

Kathy enjoyed her years at Shiloh  Academy (1975 to 1981).  In 1981 she accepted a position in Medical Staff Services at Hinsdale Hospital and stayed there until 1992.  After leaving Hinsdale Hospital, she continued to work at hospitals in the Chicagoland area in Medical Staff Services, where she provided oversight to  Medical Staff, Continuing Medical Education, Library Services, and Clinical Informatics Departments.  Her love for teaching continued, so she accepted an adjunct teaching position at one of the local community colleges.  In an effort to become more well rounded, Kathy adapted the skills she acquired while working in Medical Staff Services in hospitals and accepted a management position with the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS).

Kathy received a Master of Business Administration degree from Benedictine University and used those skills when accepting the position of Regional Director of Medical Staff Services for a four hospital system in the Chicagoland area operated by the Adventist Health System headquartered in Florida.  Kathy officially retired in October of 2021.

While at Oakwood, she met and later married another Oakwoodite, Ronald Tunis. They have been blessed with a son, Ronald Jr. (TJ) and daughter, Demia Doggette.  Their children blessed them with six grandchildren, whom they absolutely adore.

Kathy  is an active member of the All Nations Fellowship Church in Downers Grove, IL where she has held the position of elder, children’s Sabbath School teacher, and is currently the Women’s Ministry leader.
